CTE In Football
Researchers and scientists have found CTE in another football players brain. Due to the brain damage and constant collisions faced by ex-NFL player Ken Stabler, CTE was inevitable, as it is for many players. The article stated that doctors, with the naked eye, could tell that Stabler had CTE. The part of his brain which was in control of memory and learning, was very small. Many people assume that because quarterbacks received fewer hits, they were at lesser risk. However this is not completely true. Through the study of CTE, it can be seen that not only football players suffer the brain damage. Doctors also provided examples of former military members, autistic children who rocked and banged their heads, abuse victims, and even people who were shot out of a cannon as part of a circus act.
New discoveries are being made every day. Through the new data and results, we are able to understand the way in which football connects with CTE. It is the NFL’s responsibility to take the newly learned facts and research and make changes to the game. With the addition of football players to the list of people who suffered CTE, the problem becomes much more relevant. Without the help from doctors like Bennet Omalu, and developments in new technology the issue of CTE would not be prevalent.
QUESTIONS FOR THE FUTURE
Will more changes be made in order to ensure the safety of players?
Why don’t more football fans consider CTE as a major issue?
